ATLANTA (July 28, 2015) – As Guy Martin and Triumph Motorcycles continue preparations to reclaim the FIM world land speed record, past achievements are saluted with the Triumph Bonneville T214 Special Edition. This bike commemorates Johnny Allen and his record-breaking run of 214.40 mph piloting the Triumph-powered Texas Ceegar streamliner at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1956.
The Texas Ceegar was a Triumph Thunderbird 650cc-powered, methanol-fuelled streamlined motorcycle. It was conceived and built by airline pilot J.H. “Stormy” Mangham and Fort Worth Triumph dealer, tuner and 2001 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inductee Jack Wilson. Johnny Allen had six world speed records in various classes and distances before capturing the outright motorcycle land speed record.
Paying homage to the Texas Ceegar, the 865cc parallel twin Bonneville T214, is based on a Bonneville T100 and features many unique attributes. A hand painted Caspian Blue and Pure White color scheme is complimented with red and white checker detailing, mimicking that of the Texas Ceegar. Black rims, handlebars and rear suspension springs, paired with red seat stitching add to the authentic appeal. A re-profiled rear mudguard and deep bowl headlight gives this special edition a one-of-a-kind look. The Bonneville T214 has a limited production run of 1,000 units with each bike individually numbered.
While the Bonneville T214 is a salute to the past, Triumph is also looking towards the future. Its modern streamliner, the Triumph Rocket, is built with one goal in mind; to capture the land speed record and reclaim the title of world’s fastest motorcycle. Guy Martin will be piloting the dual Triumph Rocket III engine-powered streamliner, hoping to surpass the current record of 376.363 mph. The record run is scheduled for later this summer at the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah. Whatever the road, whatever the distance, whatever the challenge, the new Tiger 800 range has been built to excel. Featuring a host of rider focused technology such as the standard fitment of Triumph Traction Control and switchable ABS, the new Tiger with its powerful and more fuel efficient 95PS triple engine is up for any task.
Delivering a seamless flow of torque across the rev range, the Tiger 800 is as perfectly suited to long distance rides as it is to tackling the tough stuff. The second generation 800cc engine now features a ride-by-wire throttle system which provides smoother power delivery, better response, and lower emissions. The result is a 17% improvement in fuel efficiency that coupled with the capacious 19l fuel tank means you can ride longer.
Available in two different flavours, the touring focused XR range, and the off-road biased XC range, there is a Tiger 800 to suit everyone. We have also introduced new equipment levels with both the XRx and XCx variants. These bring even higher levels of standard equipment such as Cruise Control and the addition of Riding Modes to tackle any terrain.
